Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Department of Transport has amended the Construction and Use regulations as expected to allow an increase in the maximum overall width of a refrigerated vehicle running in the UK from 2.58m to 2.60m from the beginning oi next year. The amendment is in-line with European Commission directive 88/218/EEC which becomes effective on 1 January 1989, and allows thickwall refrigerated vehicles (with side walls of 45mm or more) tc operate between member states at a maximum width of 2.6m, provided they meet the conditions of ATP Clases B,C,E and F.

Vehicles operating in Great Britain only, however, need not meet the ATP agreement, although they must comply with the description of a refrigerated vehicle given in Reg ulation 8 of the C&U rules.
