Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The recent Commercial Motor road test of the Philips concept drawbar combination (CM 20 October) has generated considerable interest. We should point out, however, that the maximum length allowed for such a vehicle in the UK remains 18m.

The dimensions given in the road test exceeded this to allow sufficient pitching clearance between the two bodies for transition of sudden sharp changes in gradients. For normal road use, the combination runs with a shortened coupling providing adequate swing clearance and conforming with UK Construction and Use.
