The TGWU presented the claim as worth between eight and 10 per cent, but Mr Neely said it would cost about 22 per cent in real terms.
Speaking at the RHA conference in Malta, he urged JIC negotiators: "Look at the small print. Do not get involved in pounds for a 40or 39-hour week." The "little bits" like extra sickness benefit add up to a lot of money, he said.
