Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WE WERE pleased to see the Eastern Scottish MCW Metrobus given a mention (CM October 20) and flattered that our design arrangement for the Metroliner was adoped by Armstrong Galley for their award-winning livery.

The purpose of this letter, however, concerns the comment by the judges of the competition that the "People going places go Scottish" slogan appearing on the Metroliner "does not say anything meaningful". This is an incredible statement which leads one to question the judges' knowledge of the bus industry' Since it was introduced in 1975 the "broken saltire Scottish" logo has been used by the seven bus companies of the Scottish Bus Group, the largest public transport operation in Scotland, whose network of express coach services throughout the UK is second only to National Express.

The Eastern Scottish Metroliner was the first doubledeck coach produced by MCW and figured prominently in a very successful "People going places go Scottish" campaign to promote Group services. JOHN S. GEEKIE Manager S. T. G. Advertising and Publicity Services Edinburgh.

You miss the point, Mr Geekie. The judges knew the idea behind "People going places" but surely the livery was designed not for them but for the general travelling public? In that case, the slogan is a statement of the obvious. What else are you doing on a coach? The judges stand by their verdict: the slogan detracted rather than added to an otherwise good livery. —Editor.
