Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HAULIERS can now get insurance cover against loss of profits directly attributable to a strike at their customers' premises.

RHA Insurance Services, the company run jointly by the Road Haulage Association and Bain Dawes, launched the unique service last week and believes that it can create a demand for the service.

This comes as three open market insurance companies announced changes in the insurance deals they offer lorry operators.

Norwich Union has revised its no-claim discount scale for goods vehicle policies to make them more attractive to hauliers. A 20 per cent no-claim discount is available after one year's claim-free driving, rising by 10 per cent a year to 50 per cent after four years.

In the event of a claim, only two years' entitlement is lost.

It also offers unlimited windscreen cover in comprehensive insurance policies, and these claims do not undermine the no-claim discount.

For new policies and additional vehicles on an existing policy, a 15 per cent discount is being offered, provided that the vehicle's main user is over 24 and has an accident and conviction-free record over the previous 12 months. And Automotive Finance and Insurance Services, of Egham, Surrey, is extending its fouryear Gold Bond insurance protection against mechanical failure and breakdown to cover commercial vehicles.

The service supplements a manufacturer's warranty and varies in cover from a two year/24,000-mile one to a fouryear/60,000-mile cover. As an example, the company claims a Talbot Express van covered by Gold Bond could be protected against mechanical failure and breakdown for two years/ 24,000 miles for E96.

• Mercedes-Benz has extended its mechanical breakdown insurance package to provide cover for either a second or third year's life of a vehicle.
