Mrs Hinton has been chief press officer for the SMMT since August 1981, public relations executive for the Bus and Coach Council from 1979 to 1981 and press officer for the British Road Federation from 1975 to 1979.
For three years before joining the BRF, Mrs Hinton was European public relations officer based in Rotterdam for an international marine engineering company.
