"I HAVE NONE" . . that was the terse no-nonsense answer given by Transport Minister William Rodgers when he was asked in the Commons last week about his proposals for permitting heavier lorries in this country.
He was even less forthcoming when asked to publish all background papers in his Department relating to possible increased lorry weights — he simply ignored the request.
A good deal of background information had been published by the Transport and Road Research Laboratory, said Mr Rodgers, and no other papers had been prepared for publication since August 2, when John Horam had answered questions on the subject.
On that occasion both the Minister and the Under Secretary poured scorn on reports that they were going to allow heavier lorries.
