• A Wakefield stone company, which had its 0 licence curtailed by one vehicle last year, received a much stiffer penalty when it again appeared before the Yorkshire LA, Maj-Gen Sir John Potter, under Section 69 in Leeds on Monday.
The LA decided to suspend the licence held by Hirst Bros (Stone Sales) Ltd, of Wakefield, by removing for a four-month period commencing November 27, three of the six vehicles authorized.
The court heard that on August 25 1971 the firm, which then held a licence to cover four vehicles with a margin of two to be acquired, had its licence curtailed by the removal of one of the unacquired vehicles, following a record of poor maintenance.
At this week's hearing, which was held on similar grounds, Mr J. Ellis, DoE vehicle examiner, said that at a fleet inspection carried out this year, he had examined the four vehicles operated by Hirst Bros and issued one with a delayed prohibition. He added that in his opinion there had been a slight improvement in maintenance arrangements system since the previous hearing.
