• Leicester City Council's traffic committee is to provide a second car park for the Park 'n' Ride System, pioneered by Leicester City Transport in October 1967, for the pre-Christmas shopping period.
Use of a site at Red Hill will give buses a six-minute run from the outskirts to the town centre along the new St Margarets Way; £2500 will be spent on making the site suitable for bus operation.
The system has cost the undertaking about 00,000 in five years, with the venture proving viable only on Saturdays or during the pre-Christmas peak. The traffic committee agreed recently to contribute the difference between passenger receipts and marginal costs — approximately £5000 a year.
