• A record accumulated deficit of £3m is anticipated for Glasgow Transport Department by next May, according to a recent report. The deficit is already being hailed as 'scandalous'.
Cllr A. Mclaren, chairman of the transport committee has, however, said the department was hoping for a Government subsidy to keep fares stable. He claimed that if public transport was to succeed it had to be cheap and efficient.
