Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

organization about to get a 10cwt van for our own transport. Can you provide information as to the likely cost of operation, and tell us whether a used vehicle would be cheaper?

AAs shown in the current edition of the

COMMERCIAL MOTOR Tables of Operating Costs the cost of operating a 10cwt van averaging 300 miles a week is 19.35d a mile.

Although obviously the outlay on a used van would be lower than for a new one, remember that it does not follow that total operating cost would also be lower. Indeed, the extra maintenance cost which could be expected by the operator of a used vehicle could more than offset any savings in other directions.

It depends on the mechanical condition of the particular used vehicle concerned. Therefore there can be no "average" operating cost applicable to used vehicles in general as compared with new vehicles.
