• Competition on the York City tour has hotted up with local operator Jorvik Tours doubling its fleet in the face of opposition from Stratford-based Guide Friday.
Jorvik was first on the scene in York in 1984 with its opentop tours and all-day hop-onand-off ticket. Last autumn, Guide Friday took over tour work from York City & District and now has four doubledeckers in the city.
Jorvik founder David Curry contends that local companies know the area best. He has increased the tour fleet to eight and is now operating circular tours in both directions. Additional feeder services have also been laid on from local hotels to the city centre.
Curry has recruited over 25 booking agents and has increased his driving and guiding staff.
