• Pickups Transport of Pudsey, West Yorkshire has made 25 drivers redundant, following its decision to pull out of general haulage and concentrate on tanker work.
The family firm, which was set-up seven years ago, says it is withdrawing from the general haulage market because "work was becoming lean."
Pickups now has 16 drivers and plans to develop its tanker business, which it started a year ago with a five-year Elf Oil contract. The company is selling tractors and rigids and 18 trailers, but plans to expand its fleet of eight ERF tankers by winning more business from the oil industry.
