• National Courier Network, which began trading last month (CM 29 March-4 April) plans to nearly double its UK network this year.
The company currently has 170 sites and about 30 agents. General manager Mark Lunnon-Wood expects to add the extra services mainly through using additional agents, some of whom may be invited to join as NCN members. "We hope to cover 250 to 300 locations by the end of the year," he says. He is confident that the company computer, which comes on-line this week, will iron out some administration problems experienced in the first month.
NCN, with 130 member companies, was established to give small parcels operators clout against the big names in a cut-throat market at the lighter end of the parcels market. Lunnon-Wood says: "Business is at least as good as we projected". NCN is carrying heavier weights than expected, with 4.2kg the average.
