Anthony Carrimore is the only UK hoist anufacturer to back its standard range of iderfloor chrome displacement gears ith a two-year guarantee.

The ES20 five-stage front-end hoist th chrome tubes also on show is fitted th an NMI tipping body to a Daf 2300 K-wheel chassis.

RAVEN TASKER land Nos: 66/67/99 'aven Tasker's Taper Tipper is shown in i latest form. Computer-aided design s been applied to the body structure.

An extensive design programme was tiated to ensure extended life. After entifying main areas of stress, changes ere made with economic use of aterials giving a low tare weight.

The side pillars have radiused corners improve the aerodynamics and cleanli!ss, and the top rail has increased strength capability to resist inward bowing.

The features of a Taper body are still retained to give a low overall height, a continuously sloping floor for easy discharge, suspension parallel to the ground for axle equalisation — all this with a capacity of 42in3 for maximum gross vehicle weight operation.

CUMMINS Stand No: 29 & 30 A significant event for Cummins this year will be the commencement of production of Cummins B Series engines at the company's Darlington plant.

Cummins four and six-cylinder B Series engines expand the company's position in the commercial vehicle market. They are available in naturally aspirated, turbocharged and trubo-aftercooled forms. The new 3.9 and 5.9-litre units take Cummins into the middle-weight engine market for the first time. Gross outputs for the new B Series engines range from 57-134kW.

Use of computer-aided design and manufacture gives the B Series lightweight, compact size and extremely low noise and emission levels.

DM Stand No: 49/50/51 The Dal Trucks exhibits span its complete range, from 16-ton rigids to ATi tractive units for operation at 38 tonnes, but the centrepiece of its indoor stand is, without doubt, the FT 2800 DKXE ATi which makes its Tipcon debut this year. The 3.5m 4 x 2 unit is fitted with Edbro pump ing gear and powered by Daf Trucks' new 214kW (288hp) special economy version power unit. The ATi is liveried in the colours of Darley-based B. J. Waters.

Also presented will be the FAD 2500 DHS and is Dal Trucks' top-of-the-range eight-wheeler, powered by Daf Trucks' 8.25-litre engine developing 182Kw (244hp). It is offered with both single and hub-reduction axle options. Both show models have inter-axle diff locks and twin limited slip diffs as standard — ideal for all but the worst off-road conditions.

DON-BUR Stand Nos: 71/72 Don-Bur is showing three semi-trailers built over the last three years.

Supalowda, a high-capacity stepframe tipping semi-trailer, incorporates a body floor/chassis frame to minimise height over the fifth wheel. While available with capacities up to 57m3, the show model has a capacity of 36m3, overall height of 2.84m and weighs 5.73 tonnes with SAF selftracking rear axle and SAF air suspension.

The Multilowda is also a high capacity model, but with a completely flat floor.

Both models incorporate a raised portion of the chassis neck among the floor bearers. Those shown have a capacity of 38m3, although the range extends up to 45m3.

The third member of Don-Bur's tipping semi-trailer range is the light, high-capacity Paylowda trailer for low-density commodities.

It is said to be the lightest of its type on the market. It offers a payload of up to 26.5 tonnes at 38 tonnes GCW.

EDBRO Stand Nos: 63/64/65/66 Reflecting its market leadership, Edbro's range of hoists, bodies and ancilliary is to be found dispersed throughout the show. On the company's own stands is a 5.75m wheelbase Daf FAD2500 8x4 chassis exhibited complete with an Edbro 7 fixedside aluminium body with sloping pillars. Also incorporated is a raised top-swung tail door, ladder, rope hooks and shovel clips. This Edbro body has a capacity of

over 25m3 by virtue of its 1.524mm highside panels. The body operates on the Daf chassis in conjunction with an Edbro DE16 combined ram and tank displacement hoist.

FODEN Stands: 40/41/42 90 outside

Foden Trucks has three S108 8 x 4 tippers and one S106T 6 x 4 tractor unit on display.

Shown in the livery of Whitkirk Produce of Leeds is a sleeper cabbed eightwheeler which features the Fuller TS011612 Twin Splitter gearbox (now in full production) matched to a Gardner 6LYT 239kW engine via a Spicer 393mm organic clutch. It drives through an Eaton DS401P rear bogie geared at 4.11:1 to give a maximum speed of 106km/h.

Monotex cone-mounted wheels, a "non-standard option", are fitted front and rear.

GEORGE NEVILLE TRUCK EQUIPMENT Stands Nos: 29/97

"Ali Samson bodies have fully rounded internal sections to provide easy, clean, non-stick discharge of loads" says George Neville.

Two examples show design versatility to suit semi-trailer and rigid applications. A 42m3 Samson tri-axle stepframe tipping body with a 6mm floor and 4mrn sides mounted on an AHP trailer chassis weighs in at 6,500kg unladen.

The smaller 25m3 rigid body fitted on to a MAN eight-wheeler chassis cab is also

of aluminium alloy construction, using the same gauge material.

HYTEC TIPPERS Stand L42

This is Hytec's fifth year at Tipcon. The company manufactures single-front-ram tipping gears for six and eight-wheelers and semi-trailers.

Exhibits consist of a typical Hytec tipping gear installation comprising the ram/ tank assembly, cradle and tail hinge assembly mounted to a dummy chassis. A selection of PT-0/pump units, control valves and fittings and illustrations of various vehicles fitted with Hytec tipping gears are also shown.

IVECO Stand Nos: 16/17/18/1;2

Iveco has a new Magink; eight-wheeler, designated the 300.25, with an improved Deutz air-cooled engine.

It is available in two wheelbase options, 5.96m or 6.46m. The latter is also available with a full sleeper cab for haulage operations.

The Deutz F8L513 V8 engine is a de velopment of a proven series of engir and develops its maximum power 188kW at 2,300rpm — 350rpm lower if the existing model. This is coupled w 23% increase in torque at 889Nm pi duced at 1,350rpm.

A larger displacement of 18% achieved by an increased bore size frc 125mm to 128nun and stroke from 125n to 130nun to give 13.4 litres.

Changes in the combustion system dude central injection using four-hole jectors, a larger injection pump and increase in compression ratio to 16.7:1.

The engine also boasts exhaust en sion levels which are 20% below ECE gulations.

Two gearboxes are available: a nine-speed synchromesh model 109GP with a ratio spread of 12.92:1, a Fuller RT7609, nine-speed consta mesh gearbox with a ratio spread 13.07:1. These give good off-road grad bility while still allowing a high on-road speed.

A full range of PT-Os is available every application.

Double-drive, hub-reduction axles v; inter-axle and transverse diff locks included in the standard specification. reduce overall weight, parabolic sprii are fitted all round and the high-artict tion rear bogie provides maximum tract when crossing the roughest of terrain.

Full-air Stopmaster wedge actua brakes are fitted together with an ; operated exhaust brake.

Other characteristics include ZF 81 power steering, 8.25 x 22.5 wheels, 2 electrics and a 65-degree tilt cab. 1 TEC cab has a rubber _floor covering w1-. can be hosed down easily.

The twin-steer 220.30 represents tc efficiency, say Iveco. It weighs in 7,350kg equipped with standard al wheels. Its Iveco 8210.22 turbochan 13.8-litre four-stroke diesel engine p duces 226kW at 2,000rpm and a torquE 132Nin at 1,200rpm. The all-steel monocoque cab is holstered in luxury cloth trim, with full at/sound insulation and pile carpets. An -operated suspension seat meets all driver's requirements for height, ich and rake.

YLAND TRUCKS sod Nos: 78/79/80/85

e strength of Leyland in the UK tipping rket is reflected by the number of iicles exhibited by bodybuilders as well by the five models shown on its own nds.

The largest rigid chassis, a Constructor 25 eight-wheeler, is fitted with an all)37 tipping body by Randolph of Tyne and ar and is one of eight Leylands ?.rated by North-East company Malcolm lip.

it has a 5.7m wheelbase and has been .cified with a Rolls-Royce 265L1 en e which drives through a 10-speed Leer SST80 gearbox.

Tippling the scales at under 4.25 Ines, the Roadrunner 08.12 gives a iload in excess of 3.25 tonnes after wing for its truck crane and grab pack developed by NCS Truck Equipment Sheffield, and alloy dropside body with lertloor multi-stage gear.

ERCEDES BENZ and Nos: 52/53/54/62/100

?.rcedes-Benz new 3025K chassis has a rbweight of 8,630kg, complete with a I 200-litre tank of fuel, and offers a bo/tipping gear/payload allowance of 21.86 Ines.

It is shown in Hargreaves Quarries livy and with a 7m-long, 17m3 insulated adstone body by Millmoor Coachworks th its Harsh twin ram underbody tipping ar, it tips the scales at 10.73 tonnes. Se rigid eight-wheeler has the 14422.111 engine rated at 184kW alady extensively used in articulated trace units. The big V8's 14.6 litres give a iximum torque of 932Nm.

Steering has a unique safety feature as 7 as the UK is concerned. The power eering pump has a back-up drive from e Mercedes seven-speed gearbox so that in the event of an engine failure the pump continues to be driven while the vehicle is in motion.

Hub-reduction axles give a clearance of 354mm below the differential housings and a new front axle using a straight beam is even better at 373mm.

NEVILLE CHARROLD Stand Nos: 81/82/87

Neville Charrold's Bulkveyor semi-trailer is capable of discharging a payload of over 27 tonnes in just three minutes by means of a live floor fitted with high-torque, lowspeed hydraulic drive.

Its quarter plate floor is surmounted by a full width scraper conveyor driven by alloy steel chains designed for simple maintenance. The Bulkveyor gives access into places where height restrictions would 0-event the use of a tipper.

PERKINS ENGINES Stand No: 1.59

Phaser, Perkins' new Phase range of turbocharged and charge cooled six-cylinder diesels are shown for the first time.

The 180Ti is one of a six-strong range of four and six-cylinder automotive diesel engines developed for trucks between sixand 24-tonnes at a cost of £30 millions.

Like all the engines in the new family, the Phaser 180Ti uses the new combustion system known as Quadram. The result is a claimed 8% better fuel economy, 13% more power, improved torque and a 3d(B)A reduction in noise.

The high torque and torque back-up of the Phaser 180Ti makes it particularly suitable for 16-tonne tipper operations and is Seddon Atkinson's choice for its new model. It has a power output of 134kW at 2,60Orpm.

SEDDON ATKINSON Stand No: Ure Valley Aggregates is right up-to-date with the latest 2-11 16-tonne tipper from Seddon Atkinson.

Replacing the 201, the new model, available from July, offers greater power and is the first to be specified with the latest range of Perkins Phaser engines.

For tipper operation Seddon Atkinson recommend the 160T turbocharged unit which has a net installed power output of 114kW at a relatively high speed of 2,600rpm and a torque level of 508Nm at 1,60Orpm.

Charge cooling increases engine performance for the Phaser 180Ti to give an output of 129kW and torque of 572Nrn,

The 2-11 models are available in four wheelbases with kerbweights from 4,450 to 4,750kg. Ogle Design was called in to give the 201 cab a facelift and produced side deflectors at the rear of the cab, dirt deflectors on the front corners, a new bumper bar and rectangular headlamps with wash but, perhaps most important in a tipping environment, a low step height.

Inside there are changes to the level of trim, instrumentation, steering and seats. The passenger window is electric and the rear view mirrors are heated. The increased power has dispensed with the need for a splitter reverting to the standard Z.F S6-36 six-speed gearbox.

Axle equipment was improved last year. At the front the SA-65 is the design fitted to the heavier 301 and 401 chassis while at the rear the SA-105 drive axle is normally specified with the optional 6.25:1 lower ratio for tipper work.

SPICER CLUTCH Stand No: L48

Spicer Clutch Division has a new clutch designed for the high power 19-26 tonne truck range.

The core of the clutch is based on the Spicer 36mm pull-type Angle Spring unit which is widely used throughout the .UK premium truck market. Spicer has replaced the cast cover with a lighter weight pressed steel cover, providing strap drive for the intermediate plate in place of lugs for improved durability and noise reduction. It can be used in single or twin plate form within the same envelope. Organic or ceramic friction materials are available to suit any application.

The new clutch is rated in single plate form as being suitable for engines with torque outputs of between 542-678Nm. The twin plate specification having a maximum torque capacity of 1,085Nm.

It is one clutch which will suit all midrange applications from basic naturally aspirated units to the top-end turbocharged and charge cooled engines.

TAMPLIN ENGINEERING Stand No L10 The latest development in the design and construction of power packs for tipping vehicles from Taman Engineering is a Tamplin/Lister-Petter powered mobile Hydropak, a multi-purpose power pack unit. A three-function control valve makes it possible to operate a variety of hydraulic circuits, including tipping gears, double-acting rams, cranes and oil motors.

Tamplin believes that there are many occasions when a Hydropak would eliminate downtime and speed up efficiency in the maintenance of plant, quite apart from the use of the power pack in its own right.

TELEHOIST Stand No 1 With a 21-tonne payload, the Truck Mate system — designed by H C W Gaye & Company — shows the ability of Telehoist of Cheltenham to design and build truck bodywork and tipping gears to match the requirements of any customer.

Also on display is its wide selection of tipping gears, including the G range displacement rams. Compact, reliable and longevity are three areas that the G range of rams claims to show advantages over piston-type gears. VOLVO TRUCKS Stand Nos: B/32/33/34/35

The Volvo FL range makes its debut at Tipcon 86 with an FL6-16 tipper, an FL7 L Ride six-wheeler, and FL7 8x4 T Ride and the top-of-the-range 223kW FL10 8 x 4 T. Ride tipper, all in operators' colours.

Despite the phasing out of its F range of multi-wheeler tippers, Volvo still took just over 25% of the market in 1985 and its three-axle models account for slightly more than 15% of the six-wheel rigid sector.

The specification for the FL6-16 4x2 includes a 3.4m wheelbase, short cab and TD 61F intercooled 152kW rated engine. ZF S6-65 synchronised six-speed gearbox drives onto a 4.87:1 diff ratio. A Telehoist 7m alloy tipping body and hydraulic gear is mounted to the chassis.

The Volvo FL7 6x4 L Ride with a 4.4m wheelbase also has the short cab. The driveline consists of a TD 71F intercooled 169kW engine, an R52 eight-speed synchronised range change gearbox and 4,87:1 diff ratio. A Wilcox Group 27rn" tipper/ blower bulk alloy body is complemented by Edbro DE14 tipping gear.

A Volvo FL7 8 x 4 '1' Ride is shown with a 5.6m wheelbase. The ID 71FS is intercooled to produce 180kW and drives through to a SR62 16-speed synchronised range-change gearbox with splitter and 5.43:1 diff ratio. Its Keenline bulk alloy tipping body and Hyva tipping gear provides a 29m" capacity.

The most powerful model, a Volvo FL10 8x4 T Ride, has the TD 101F intercooled engine rated at 220kW and shares the R62 eight-speed synchronised range change gearbox of the FL7. Its 5m wheelbase chassis is bodied by a Wilcox 15m3 capacity tipping body with Edbro tipping gear.

WILCOX Stand No: 101

Among the Wilcox line-up of aluminium al: by vehicle bodies is the massive 73m3 Autofloor trailer, one of five built for Wastedrive to handle its 70,000-tonne yearly bulk domestic waste contract with the Royal County of Berkshire.

Autolloor uses a system of alternately moving planks to shift loads ranging from domestic and industrial waste to path and grain into or out of the body. T operator has a simple arrangement levers to vary the speed of the ram ment or reverse it and at the maxim' rate, can unload a 12m trailer in unU seven minutes.

ZF GEARS Stand No: L2 Displayed for the first time is a n power take-off which is designed for I ZF S5-18/3 gearbox which is now stand; fitment in the Bedford CF2 range.

Complete with in-cab manual contr the P-T-0 kit is available with do: coupled pump or drive flange for pi shaft drive. The unit can deliver betwe 9 and 15kW pro rata to engine spet with a lift capacity of 1, 775kg.

IN THE OUTSIDE PARK Stand Nos: 38/39/88 York's high-productivity tipping bulker the Magnum 27 — is now on the sec and claims to meet the needs of ti weight, long-haul operators for the ni 20 years. It shows substantial benefits matched by more conventional models.

In step-frame form it offers a high ct of 43.8m", low overall height of 3.3m 2 a low tare weight of just 5.6 tonnes. Apart from the side wall top rails, body is fabricated from N8-grade aluminium panels.
