THE European Commission announced draft regulations on Friday which will give the UK a considerable increase in its quota of EEC lorry permits if Ministerial' approval is forthcoming.
Signor Carlo Scarascia Mugnozza, the Commissioner responsible for transport policy, was in London last week to explain the proposals to Mr Anthony Crosland.
Britain's quota of 129 permits is likely to be raised to 227 for this year, 272 for next year and 318 for 1976. Until now, there has been opposition from the French to any increase until Britain agrees to increase gross vehicle weights.
It is hoped that the permit increases will become effective after the Transport Ministers of the Nine meet next month.
