PALL-EX HAS toasted a strong first quarter, signing two new members ahead of CEO Hilary Devey’s appearance on BBC TV show Dragons’ Den.

At the same time, the Ellistown, Leicestershire-based pallet network says it enjoyed buoyant volumes in Q1, which will prove useful for Devey who will be ploughing her own cash into new business ventures as part of her forthcoming Dragon role (CM 10 February).

Southampton Container Logistics is the latest firm to join the network and will cover deliveries in Southampton.

A Pall-Ex spokesman tells CM: “The firm is conveniently situated on the Nursling Industrial Estate and is only five minutes from Southampton Docks, so for the network this is a prime location.”

In addition, Mid Glamorgan-based T John Transport has been handling Cardiff Pall-Ex deliveries since January, after exiting a two-year partnership with UK Pallets.

Simon Delve, manager at T John Transport, says: “We grabbed the opportunity to join Pall-Ex because of the high volumes that go through the network. We are already handling around 120 pallets daily compared with an average of 60 per day with UK Pallets.” He adds that the company is looking to increase its 10-strong fleet to cope with the influx of sales.

Meanwhile, Dragons’ Den is inviting applications from cash-strapped entrepreneurs to take part in the show.
