Yes, there is an updated specification of the digital tachograph that must be fitted to all new trucks registered from 1 October 2011. The new release contains many updates, but the key change that will directly affect operators and drivers is the way in which driving and activity will be recorded: this is designed to address some of the issues relating to “rounding up”.
Trucks registered after 1 October 2012 will then require a further revised digital tachograph. The modifications in this version will focus around improving the device’s ability to detect tampering, particularly through the use of magnets.
