April/May bank holidays:

22 April – Good Friday 25 April – Easter Monday 29 April – Royal Wedding 2 May – Labour day 30 May – Whitsun There are eight permanent bank holidays in England and Wales; nine in Scotland and 10 in Northern Ireland.

● Employees are entitled to a minimum 5.6 weeks paid annual leave (28 days for someone working five days a week).

● Part-time workers are entitled to the same level of holiday pro-rata (5.6 times the usual working week, equating to 22.4 days for someone working four days a week).

● Holiday accrues as soon as an employee starts work. ● Employers may control when leave is taken.

● Employees receive their normal pay during holiday.

● When leaving a job, employees must be paid for untaken holiday.

● Bank and public holidays can be included in minimum entitlement. There is no right to an enhanced pay rate for working on a bank holiday – it depends on the contract of employment.

● Holiday entitlement continues through ordinary and additional maternity leave and paternity and adoption leave.

● Only those classified as workers are entitled to annual leave. The self-employed have no right to statutory paid annual leave.
