THOUGH ACCEPTING the surrender of the licence held by Handsworth, Birmingham-based Adella Jackson,West Midland Traffic Commissioner David Dixon has suspended her husband's HGV driving licence for four weeks.

Jackson, who held a three-vehicle licence, had been called before the TC at a Birmingham disciplinary inquiry because of concern over hours and tachograph convictions and the use of an unauthorised operating centre. Appearing for Jackson and Trench, Jeremy Fear said Jackson was not in good health and her husband had been running the business. Jackson wanted to surrender her one-vehicle licence, and Trench could apply for a one-vehicle licence of his own.

Acting Sergeant Geoff Moy of Essex Police said analysis of Trench's tachograph chart over a month revealed he had exceeded 4.5 hours without taking a proper break; exceeded the daily driving limit;taken insufficient weekly rest:And failed to complete the centre field or use the mode switch. Trench, an HGV driver for over 40 years, said that he had misunderstood the regulations. He had left a chart over the weekend for Monday because it had only been partly used a.

Making the suspension order, the TC said that it was a comprehensive bunch of offences, caused by ignorance but the number of mistakes Trench had made in one month was simply not acceptable.
