▪ The Transport and Road
Research Laboratory is to conduct a series of surveys on drinking and driving. They will take place in Warwickshire and Sussex between lOpm and 3am during April, May and June.
Drivers will be interviewed at the roadside, with a series of questions about their occupation and drinking habits, including personal attitudes. Participation will be strictly voluntary, and provisions will be made to assist drivers who are over the legal limit, including lifts home and free car transportation.
A recent survey in Nottinghamshire revealed that nearly two thirds of all accidents occur within Skrn of the start of a journey and that beer is the most common drink consumed. Results also indicate that male drivers aged 20-24, semi-skilled manual workers, and the unemployed are most likely to be involved in drinkrelated accidents.
