Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Could I go to a hgv driving school to take lessons so that I may take the hgv test with this licence or do I first have to pass a car test to get an ordinary licence? Is there a provisional hgv licence?

AYou can start hgv driver training before passing your ordinary driving test provided that you hold both a current provisional or

dinary licence and a provisional hgv driving licence.

In order to obtain the latter you should complete the appropriate application form (obtainable from traffic area offices and main post offices) and return this to the Licensing Authority for the traffic area in which you reside. A requirement of the application is that you must submit a form (part of the application form) completed by a doctor following a medical examination for which you have to pay privately. Fees for this are generally in the region of f 3 to f5,

Full details of hgv driving licences and the hgv test are set out in two small booklets obtainable free from the traffic area office.

Whether any hgv driving school will accept you for training on goods vehicles before you have passed the ordinary driving test is a matter which you can discover only by contacting them to see what their requirements are.
