Hewitt, who had been given reason to believe that offences of this nature were being committed. Mr Hewitt had interviewed the managing drector of the company, Mr B. Webb, and had told him of the offences. Mr Webb said that in that type of business, time was of the essence but added that warning notices regarding this sort of offence had been fitted in all vehicle cabs.

The magistrate took into account another conviction when Webb's Poultry Products had been fined £1 on four counts on March 21 1969 for failing to cause drivers to keep current records.

In all, the magistrate fined Webb's Poultry Products a total of £155, £5 on each of the 31 charges and allowed 28 days for payment.
