• Stricter control at rubbish dumps should be coupled with a drive against the unlawful road operator, said Mr W. W. Grace (Lion Cartage Ltd, London) chairman, RHA Metropolitan and South Eastern area, at the area annual dinner in London on Monday.
"Recent experience of what has happened at some of the rubbish tips in the Midlands justifies our demand for the closest possible scrutiny of applicants for operators' licences," said Mr Grace. "More important still, it shows the need for redoubling efforts to catch and to prosecute the probably considerable number of completely unauthorized operators whose activities can now be seen more clearly than ever as a menace to the whole community."
