EDITOR of COMMERCIAL MOTOR for the past six years, Alan Havard has been appointed assistant director of freight planning with the Transport Holding Company.
Mr. Havard is aged 40. Previously he was with the British Road Federation.
He is a corporate member of the Institute of Transport, is a member of the council of the Institute and chairman of their visual aids committee. Mr. Havard is an occasional lecturer in road haulage subjects at London University and is the author of The Road Carrier—a text book on road goods transport.
He is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Carmen.
In recent years he has carried out surveys into road transport operation and legislation in the United States, Canada and Japan. After service during and after the 1939-1945 War with the Intelligence Corps in Burma, attached to the 82nd West African and 17th Indian Divisions, Mr. Havard spent several years in Canada.
Mr. Havard has been associated for a number of years with the National Lorry Driver of the Year Competition, serving on the executive committee and last year was appointed national honorary organizing secretary.
