THE RAILWAYS are being allowed to put up their freight rates.
Mrs. Barbara Castle announced in the Commons last week that she had agreed that the Railways Board should be allowed to resume the renegotiation of freight rates which was interrupted in July.
"I am satisfied that this is justified in view of the increased costs which have fallen upon the Board, and which it has not been able to cover in full by operational economies," she explained.
