Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

APASEAL LTD. Bowes House Hailsbam, Sussex.

USE of the tool's weight to assist tyre removal

is the object of the Apaseal Roadall beadbreaker. The edge of the tool is placed on top of the bead underneath the wheel rim, and by releasing a trip lever the end tool slides down over the fixed end of the tool, giving an impact thrust to the tyre bead.

The Roadall can be used with the wheel flat on the ground or raised clear using a dummy hub. The operator moves round the wheel changing the position of the tool until the bead is completely free.

EachRoadall is supplied with one of four end tools—No.1 for large tyres; No.2 for small tyres only; No.3 (with blunt end tool) alternative to No.1 for large tyres; and No.4 (with swan-necked end tool) for heavy earthmoving tyres.

For giant tyres up to 9.00-20 Apaseal offers the David II removal tool. Its enormous pressure on the bead of the tyre is distributed evenly round the entire circumference, preventing damage or distortion. The David 11 is also useful for fitting remoulds or tyres with a high ply rating.

The Fejo-Continental air-operated commercial tyre remover is compact and portable and powerful enough to speed removal of even the most stubborn tyre without risk of damage, say the makers.

BARWELL ENGINEERING LTD.

Swavesey, Cambridge.

A floor-mounted tyre spreader which allows a thorough inspection of the inside walls of all types of tyre is marketed by this company. A tyre inflation cage is also marketed.

BELUS LTD. 100 Oxford Road

Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.

DESIGNED to remove even the most stubborn tyre is a giant tyre removal machine marketed by this company. Catering for tyres in the 16 in. to 28 in. rim category the machine can apply 14 tons hydraulic presstire on the bead by means of four evenly spaced and adjustable arms.

With this type of remover the wheel does not have to be reversed as is the case with some other tyre removers.

The Belus Maigret is a pneumatic, foot-operated inspection and spreading machine and has a specially designed head which holds the tyre steady. For repairs, the head is reversed, giving a domed support for buffing.

A manual tyre spreader is the Topace. It spreads all tyres from 5.20-10 upwards. Model A is a non-fixed type, designed to fit over the pillar of a TipTop (MWH), Ace, Dunlop or Beissbarth tyre-fitting machine. Model B is bench-mounted.

DUNLOP CO. LTD. Fort Dunlop

DUNLOP'S TRJ30 hydraulic giant tyre remover is a small, compact but powerful machine suitable for 13 in. to 24 in. rim sizes. A bead mover designed to free tyres from all types of rim is the Dunlop IBM/4. The operation of separating tyre bead from rim flange takes place gradually without damage.

For inspections, the OT/2 screw-type tyre spreader enables internal cuts and fractures to be easily located owing to the very wide opening afforded.

The Octopus hydraulic tyre remover has six pressure feet on a spider framework, all adjustable simultaneously by a single hand wheel to provide for different rim diameters.

Designed to remove and refit commercial vehicles tyres of all sizes up to 14.00-20, including twothreeand four-piece wheels, is the Robot tyre changer. The base of the appliance is very low so that large tyres can be handled with the least possible effort and an adaptor can be supplied for tyres fitted to small centre wheels.

The bottom bead is broken by placing the breaker into position under the platform, inserting the claw, and lifting the arm sharply whereby the bead is broken by the pressure on the lever arm.

UNION TYRE CO. LTD.

Woodhouse Lane, Wigan, Lancs.

THE UTS bead knocker manufactured by this company is one-man-operated.
