AN application by Galley's Motors, Ltd., Newcastle-on-Tyne, for permission to reduce fares on excursions and tours has been adjourned sine die by the Northern Licensing Authority, so that the companies involved can try to co-ordinate fares.

Mr. F. Cowie, general manager, has called a conference to discuss the matter with five other companies in the North East. He stated that fares could be lowered without financial loss. Among other proposals, he suggested that the 15s. 9d. fare to Keswick could be reduced to 14s. ,

OVER 000,000 VEHICLES

A CCORDING to the 'latest returns of 1-1..the Ministry of Transport, ,there were 4,058,100 licences for mechanically propelled vehicles current at August 31 last, compared with 3,693,700 a year earlier. Of the licences in force last August, 138,000 were for hackneys, 4,100 for tractors and 808,700 for goods vehicles. Agricultural goods vehicles numbered 45,300. There were also 14,100 efectrics.
