CM COVER STORY

joasma.bourketarb.co.uk WORLD CUP FEVER has led to several drinks distributors experiencing double-digit volume growth, but operators say it will only last if England remain in the competition.

Richard Lainchhury, general manager at Cert Octavian. based in Hoddesdon, Hants, reveals: "Volumes surged in the week commencing 4 June, where we shipped 90,000 cases in just four days: numbers we would normally associate with November and our peak season." He continues: "In addition, we are seeing individual World Cup drinks promotions create demand. In London we shipped 1,000 cases of bottled beer to one chain of bars in preparation for England's first match."

Meanwhile, Leicestershire-based transporter for Carlsberg and Mar tini, Jigsaw Solutions, saw daily average orders double to 140 since the beginning of June, meaning extra subcontractors have been required.

Jeff Stanton, non-executive chairman for London City Bond, adds: "We arc incredibly busy and volumes in early June are up at least 20% on the same period last year."

However, John Crosk, transport operations manager at Tradeteam, says: "I think we have peaked. Pubs and stores made sure they had extra stocks in, so now it will he a case of delivering to them as and when they require replenishments."
