Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANEW design of general-purpose freight container, with a base frame which provides location and fixing points for transportation on British Railways liner-train wagons, is now being produced by Duramin Engineering (Lydney) Ltd.

A batch of 32 of these containers is now being completed for use in the development of the service provided in Holland, Belgium. Germany, France and Italy by Continental Ferry Trailers with H. W. Konig, of Rotterdam.

The containers will also be used to develop the new CFT service to Scandinavia, where they will operate in partnership with Bilspedition, of Gothenburg.

Built to the recommendations of the International Standards Organization, the containers have overall dimensions of 19 ft. 10.5 in. long by 8 ft. wide by 8 ft. high, giving internal dimensions of 19 ft. 5 in. by 7 ft 8 in. by 7 ft. 3 in. They have a gross rating of 20 tons and an unladen weight of of only 36 cwt.

In addition to the special base frame, the containers are provided with Drott Travelift recesses combined with forklift tunnels suitable for a Hyster fork-truck. Castings welded at the top corners of the frame facilitate top lifting, and similar castings at the base corners can be fitted with adapters to facilitate base lifting.

These corner castings also facilitate anchorage during transport and allow containers to be stacked four-on-one, fully laden. Another feature of the containers is the provision of support leg stand locations adjacent to the corner castings.

The containers have a mild-steel frame with closely spaced cross-members, and side and front end panels in 14 s.w.g. light alloy sheeting. This is used in conjunction with exterior pillars to give a flush interior and thus dispense with the need for an internal lining. Units with exterior panelling, interior top-hat-section pillars and plywood lining are also available.

Full-height. weatherproofed double doors at the end of the container open up to give full access for loading and unloading. Roof panelling is fabricated in 16 s.w.g. light alloy sheet.
