GLASGOW CORPORATION has given approval in principle to the talks necessary for consideration of the Scottish Bus Group take-over bid. The Group, through a firm of solicitors, has invited the Corporation to lease to the Group the whole of the bus, trolleybus and underground undertakings for a 10-year period, in return for which lease the Group would assume the outstanding debt of £8m. and pay an annual rental to the city.
The Corporation has now approved meetings at which the full legal and financial implications of the proposals will be assessed. Detailed information will be sought from the Group as to its plans and intentions. Such proposals will then be examined by the town clerk and the city chamberlain, the legal and financial representatives of the city. The position of the city transport labour force will be examined.
