Ackworth Depot Returns to Ackworth Transport Co., Ltd.: Onward Road Transport Resume Operations from Selby

THE depot of British Road Services at Wakefield Road, Ackworth, has been returned to its former owners, Ackworth Transport Co., Ltd., who began operating there on Monday.

Apart from the premises, there are 20 lorries with a total unladen weight of about 96 tons.

Under B.R.S., the depot was used for tramp services and trunk services to London.

. The principal of Ackworth Transport is Mr. W. Storey, whose purchase of ex-B.R.S. vehicles has often been reported in The Commercial Motor. The -company now run a fleet of between 30 and 40 vehicles on trunk and tramp services. They also operate from Sheffield and Hull.

Mr. F. J. Jolley. has -been appointed manager at Wakefield Road, and the operation of all the company's vehicles will now be controlled from this branch.

Onward Road Transport also took over their former premises at Selby on Monday. Fourteen operational lorries (76 tons) and an additional vehicle are concerned. It is intended soon to open an office in Goole. .

Transporters, Ltd.,. 28 The Side, Newcastle upon Tyne, who• have had five lorries (16 tons 17 cwt.) assigned • tothem by Mr. R. A. Hunter, 28 Woodlands, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, have transferred one (2 tons 16 cwt.) to Mr. F. Wilkinson, 124 Kings Road, Waltsend, Newcastle upon Tyne. F. Short and Sons, Ltd., Maritime Buildings, King Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, have bought another lorry (3 tons 4 cwt.); F. and F. Robinson (Stockton-onTees), Ltd., Elm Street, Stockton-on-Tees, one (4 tons 7 cwt.); and Mr. J. R. Wilson, 66 Musgrave Street, Penrith, one (3 tons 2 cwt.). A first purchase, comprising a lorry weighing 3 tons 4 cwt., has been made by Mr. A. Kell, 203 Clifton Road, Darlington.

Mr. W. II. Brunskill, 4 British Avenue, South Church, Bishop Auckland, has transferred six vehicles (33 tons 8 cwt.) to Wm. Brunskill and Son (Transport), Ltd., George Street, Bishop Auckland.

Mr. C. A. Ranakti,Victoria Terrace. Coundon, Bishop Auckland, has taken over a lorry (3 tons 19 cwt.) from Messrs. Chambers andHoliday. Garden Street, Darlington; Furness Transport, Ltd., Marsh Street Garage, 13arrow-in-Furness, one (7 tons 2 cwt.) from T.G.B. Motors, Ltd., Junction Street, Burnley; and Mr. P. Strain, 2 Queen Street, Newton Stewart, two (5 tons 13 cwt.) from Mr. W. Mulholland, Strand Road. Carlisle, Messrs. Stmter Bros., Boroughbridge Road, Northallerton. have transferred two articulated outfits (27 tons 3 cwt.) to an ordinary A licence. They have assigned a special A-licensed vehicle (2 tons 18 cwt.) to Mr. H. M. Richardson, Ntinnington, near York. NORTH-WEST Five lorries (15 tons) have gone to John M. Walker (Liverpool), Ltd., Mersey View Road, Halebank, Widnes. It is their first purchase.

Mr. 'Taylor has transferred his purchase to J. Shone and Sons, Ltd., Knowle Lane, Buckley, Flints, who have also bought another lorry (3 tons). Johnson, Wild and Co., Ltd., The Woodland, Ashton Road, Newton-le-Willows, have been granted special A licences for a further seven lorries (221 tons). One of these (3 tons) has been assigned to Mr. G. J. Allen, 343 Washway Road, Sale; one (2/ tons) to Mr. B. D. Imrie, 163 Ellesmere Road, Walton, near Warrington; and one (41 tons) to Mr. J. W. Ratcliffe, Low Bank Road Garage, Ashton-in-Makerfield. The lorry taken over by Mr. Ratcliffe has now been transferred to Mr, J. K. Allen, Old Farm Garage, School Lane, Litherland, Liverpool.

A lorry (3 tons) taken over from Mr. W. R. Brailsford, in the Northern Traffic Area, by Mr. E. Hewitt, Henry Square, Ashton-under-Lyne, has now been transferred to Diamond Industries (Manchester), Ltd., 55 Market Street, Manchester, 1. It is based at Ashton-under-Lyne. Jones Transport Services (Liverpool), Ltd., 58 Regent Road, Liverpool, 20, have acquired two artitulated outfits (10 tons),based in Widnes, from Fountain Self-Drive Cars (Liverpool), Ltd., 58 Regent Road, Liverpool, 20.

Thomas Guy, Ltd., Black Horse Farm, Burscough, have bought another two lorries and a trailer OH tons). One of the lorries and the trailer (81 tons) came from the Warrington Warehousing Co., 40a Elksmere Road, Stockton Heath, and the other lorry from R. H. Miler, Ltd., Railway Arches, Kirkham. Thomas Guy have now transferred a lorry (51 tons) to Messrs. E. Hesketh and Sons, 181 Church Road, Rainford, Lancs.

WEST MIDLANDS Messrs. Barker and Shenton, New Garage, Checkley, near Tean, have taken over five lorries (171 tons) in a first purchase. Another first purchaser, Mr. G. W. Baker, 23 King Street, Bradley, Bilston, has acquired four lorries (281 tons) and two trailers.

Cusick (Oldham), Ltd., Thornton Street, Collyhurst. have also bought six Bristol-based vehicles (191 tons). S.-Ball and Son (Transport), Ltd., West End Garage. Chipping Sodbury, have acquired another 13 lorries (52 tons 7 cwt.). One of these (3 tons) has gone to Messrs. R. J. Hardwick and J. R. Parsons. 212 Fishponds Road, Bristol; one (4 tons 19 cwt.) to Mr. J. E. Clark, 80 Horse Street, Chipping Sodbury; one (3 tons 8 cwt.) to Messrs. Gatehouse, 28 Hart Road, St. Albans, has acquired another two lorries (5 tons 7 cwt); Greenwood's (Contractors), Ltd., Bury Road, Ramsey, Huntingdon, three (9 tons); Titterrell's Transport (London), Ltd., 504 Silwood Street, London, S.E.16, eight (26 tons); Mr. C. E. White, 2 Mount Road, Hayes, Middx., one (3 tons 19 mt.); Messrs. Cressex Transport, Lancaster Road, Ifigh Wycombe, five (15 tons 14 cwt.); and Mr. R. J. Newton, 296 Kingston Road, Ewell, two lorries (5 tons 12 cwt) and two trailers.

Morgan and Loynes, Ltd. (Mob o Storage Co.), 36 Maze Pond, London, S.E.1, have had their first tender accepted. The purchase comprised four lorries (12 tons).

Cusick (Oldham), Ltd., Thornton Street, Collyhurst, Manchester, 9, have had three lorries (14 tons), based in London, made over to them by Mr. A. Cusick, 282 Frederick Street, Oldham. Mr. Cusick has also transferred a London-based lorry (31 tons) to J. Monk and Co., 66 Northampton Street, Leicester; and one (6 tons 6 cwt.) to Commercial Motors and Spares. Ltd., 64 Effra Rd.,London, S.W.2.

Percy D. Sleeman, Ltd., 91 Cowley Road, Uxbridge, have been granted special A licences for another four vehicles (13 tons 8 cwt.) and a trailer. One of the lorries (4 tons 9 cwt.) and the trailer were assigned by Mr. T. H. Prince, 44 Arpley Street, Warrington, and have now been transferred to Messrs. Chessun Bros.. 43 Melon Road, London. S.E.15.
