nRDERS taken by Leyland-Albion k-./ (Africa), Ltd., in May exceeded by 90 per cent. those received in February. the previous record month. South African Railways and Harbours have ordered 49 vehicles to join a fleet of over 40 engaged upon building new railway routes.
Twenty-five of the vehicles will be Hippo six-wheelers, 16 of which will have 8-9-cu.-yd. tipping bodies and nine will have platform bodies. The remaining vehicles will be Comets.
An order for 100 Comet bus chassis has been placed by Ashok Motors, Ltd., Madras, to help meet the demand from municipal bus operators in India. The vehicles will be shipped completely knocked down
Order for Leyland vehicles from India during the current financial year are approaching the Lim. mark.
AMBULANCES TO BE OIL-DRIVEN
AN oil engine is to be installed in a Morris-Commercial ambulance by Middlesex Fire Brigade's repair depot to find out how much this work will colt. Previously, 14 sitting-case vehicles were converted to oilers. by the manufacturers, who made no charge for labour.
As these vehicles have proved to use half the amount of fuel consumed by petrol models, it is thought desirable to convert the remaining 29 ambulances.
MOBILE SHOPS FOR HIRE
OPERATORS of Karrier Bantam mobile shops may now hire from Smith's Delivery Vehicles, Ltd., Team Valley, Gateshead on Tyne, Il, replacement vehicles when the regular units need docking.
The weekly hire charge is ill 10s. and the daily rate is £3 10s. These figures include Excise licence and insurance. Delivery to the operators' premises is charged additionally. The C licence can be transferred readily.
