DURHAM HAULIER Elddis Transport saw drops in turnover and pre-tax profits for 2007, according to the latest figures from Companies House.
The Consett-based business, which operates more than 350 vehicles and trailers, reported a drop in turnover from £23.7m to 223.3m, producing pre-tax prof its that fell from £215,358 in the year to 31 December 2006 to £133,254 last year.
However, the firm is upbeat about the results, and the directors report says the firm 'continues to make progress in a competitive market".
The report adds that a "significant percentage" of its business had to be retendered in 2007, and, with one exception, all contracts were retained. There are fewer renewals this year.
In 2007, Eddis continued to expand its fleet, buying more than 100 vehicles and trailers. It now operates a fleet with an average age of two years.
