Support for DSA

Ihave read the letter headed DSA disaster, in this week's edition, with some amazement. I was chatting to a female LGV instructor recently, about the theory test and related matters, and she advised me to "get it out of the way" and concentrate on saving my pennies for the cost of the practical instruction, without distraction.

Consequently, on the way home, 1 stopped at a Driving Test Centre to collect a form with the relevant phone numbers. As soon as I reached home I phoned the DSA to book and pay for the theory test. One week later, Friday 13 June, I sat the test, and a week after that received my Pass Certificate. So, AU, what's the problem? Is it confined to the Bristol, or is it that nobody wanted a test on Friday the 13th, so there were lots of late vacancies? Regarding the theory test itself, I have heard that there is an 88% pass rate for the LGV theory test. If you read the book The Official Theory Test for Large Vehicle Drivers, compiled by the DSA and available from HMSO, you might realise why the other 12% fails, and why the theory test has been implemented!

I phoned the DSA to ask about the use of hazard lights lights as used by recovery drivers. The person who phoned me back couldn't have been more helpful, taking 45 minutes to give me the legal "bottom line" interpretation as well as theoretical guidance for apparently borderline issue.

So why have nasty digs at the DSA when their intentions are only to increase competence and safety for all?
