RENOLD Power Transmissio Ltd has developed a new cam shaft idler chain for automotiv engines, designated EL (extr life).

This is claimed to offer distinc benefits over gears, toothe belts and inverted tooth chain and to provide a substantial ad vantage over standard chains a engine and lubricant conditioi deteriorate with extended run fling.

The EL uses only two wheel so there is no need for interme diate gears or shafts and I claimed to be narrower, lights and easier to tension than a con ventlonal chain.

Renold also claims that the El chain takes up less space than 1 toothed belt and should no need replacing in "the norma life of the engine" which Renolc puts at 100,000km (100,00( miles),
