Planning Branch at the Home Office is paying special attention to combating the theft of money and other valuables being transported by road.
Mr. Henry Brooke, the Home Secretary, told the Commons last week that he attached a great deal of importance to the work of the Branch, and when it reported he would have to give considerations to the best means of conveying its suggestions to all concerned.
There was far too much of this kind of crime, he declared—although • he considered that it was primarily the responsibility of the owner to protect the contents of vehicles against theft.
Noting that there was increasingly good co-operation between the police and firms transporting valuables, Mr. Brooke made special mention of the Road Haulage Association's vehicles security committee.
