Jsing a vehicle without an Operators' Licence or insurance and with an unsealed tachograph cost Crewebased Julie Meir and her husband Duncan, who trade as JDM services, a total of 22,800 in fines and costs.

When they appeared before the Holyhead magistrates Julie Meir admitted one offence of using a vehicle without an 0licence and one of using it without insurance. Her husband admitted three offences of using a vehicle without an 0-licence and one of using it with an unsealed tachograph.

Prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, Peter Egan said that a 38-tonne artic had been stopped in a roadside check on the AS at Holyhead last December. No 0-licence disc was displayed. Driver Alan Wardle had said he was running from Crewe to Holyhead with a load collected from BOC Distribution at Crewe. He had added that he had regularly driven the vehicle from Crewe to Holyhead with goods destined for Marks &, Spencer stores in Dublin.

After two further roadside checks of trucks driven by Duncan Meir he admitte that he was running without an 0-licence.

When Julie Meir was visited by a traffi examiner she declined to be interviewer said Egan, saying that it was inconvenier at that time.

A further interview was arranged an again Julie Meir failed to keep th appointment. Despite several telephoo calls the traffic examiner had bee unable to make further contact.

Enquiries made at the North Wester, Traffic Area Office revealed that Julie Mei had not held an 0-licence in Decembe 2000. The magistrates fined her .21,501 with 250 costs; they fined Duncan Meir ; 2950 with 1100 costs.

Julie Meir has a previous conviction fo multiple hours and 0-licence offences dal ing back to March 2000.
