• A new Foden heavy truck cab is likely to break cover within the next five years, according to Paccar UK managing director Rod Heather. But it will be based on Foden's existing composite panel technology philosophy which offers excellent corrosion resistance and low weight.
Heather says that while some opportunities exist to consider joint cab development with Paccar in the US, "we will do our own thing on the big cab. It will be designed for Europe and built for Europe".
Foden is launching its latest high-roof version of the 4000 Series cab (CM 20 December2 January) at the Brussels Show this week. The Hi-Line offers an increased headroom of 1.8m and will be the centrepiece on the company's stand in Belgium, which will also feature a Cummins-powered 32tonne eight-wheeler and a Kenworth 1800 bonneted tractor sold to a French operator through Foden's main dealer in France, Navi of Carvin.
Foden is stepping up its sales effort on the Continent with some 20% of all current order intake going for export.
In addition to business in South Africa and New Zealand, Foden is now competing in Spain, France, Belgium and Switzerland.
