• Diesel prices are set to rise by at least 2p/lit, says analysts at Oil Price Assessment, rising "significantly" in the long-term.
The Departments of Energy and Transport have come up with a series of "light-handed measures" to deal with a scenario of depleted oil reserves. These include a possible cut in the overall speed limit from 70mph to 50mph.
But hauliers have no need to panic over fuel supplies because of events in the Gulf, says EC energy commissioner Antonio Cardoso e Cunha. The EC has 100 days worth of oil in reserve and will call for a 10% cut in non-essential usage, such as street lighting, if need be.
