E. S. PAYNE Secretary and Legal Adviser Greater Glasgow PTE RECENT articles written by your contributor, Les Oldridge, are, no doubt helpful to your readers engaged in road haulage for whom they are intended. But it is a matter of concern to CPT and to member operators in the bus and coach industry who have contracted us, that the articles are open to misinterpretation.
It is not clear in the titles of • these articles that the law stated only applies to goods vehicles operators and the reader has to search deep into the text to confirm this. We are also concerned that your concise tables in these articles may catch the eye of busy readers from the pas senger sector who could misguidedly cut them out and preserve them for future use!
To have differing legislation for goods and passenger opera tions is bad enough and likely to cause confusion amongst operators so it is important that all authorities on this law should be careful to make the distinction clear.
