YORKSHIRE TRACTION is to fit its fleet of 98 Bristol deck buses with Fidus control systems. VRT double The new system combines controls for overspeed protection and two-gear protection for a pneumocyclic gearbox, with input for an electronic speedometer and odometer, all housed in the same control box. They are operated by on electronic probe aimed at th propshaft boltheads.

Yorkshire Traction carried oL. tests on four VRTs fitted wit standard Fidus Overspeed Prc tection Units and electroni speedometers. The four vehicle were compared with a randor sample of 12 vehicles from th fleet and were operated ove normal routes for two years.

Fidus claim that the tes vehicles were achieving a gear box life increase of 16,000 mile and an average engine life in crease of about 14,000 miles.

During the tests the gea selector manufacturer intro duced a modification whicl involved adding a two-speer protection facility to the Fidu unit.
