• Following silent checks carried out by Ministry of Transport examiners in September last year, six drivers were fined a total of £142 for hours and records offences at Altrineham magistrates' court on Monday.

F. Bardsley of Oldham was found to have worked 14+ hours in 24 and gone more than 5+ hours without rest. He had taken only 6+ consecutive hours' rest and had incorrect records on two occasions. He received a total fine of £29 on these five counts.

L. Gavaghan, employed by J. Grindrod and Sons Ltd., and W. Rutter of Stockport were fined £17 and £19 respectively. An employee of Menotor Shirt Ltd., Stockport, A. Lewis, and G. Davis, Smith's of Eccles Ltd., received fines of £24 each, and G. Cook of Northwich, was fined £29.
