• A new racing car transporter has been specially built for the Alan Mann Racing Organisation by the Tiverton Body and Container Co. Ltd., Tiverton, Devon. It is capable of carrying four cars plus spares and tuning equipment and is finished in a red and gold livery.
A refrigerator, cooker, infra-red heater and a fold-up bed are some of the luxury fitments in the 36ft long transporter. The vehicle is based on a Ford R226 36ft coach chassis, powered by 360 cu.in., diesel engine. The integral coachbuilt cab is framed in quality hardwoods with exterior panels of 16 gauge aluminium; the interior is insulated with polystyrene plywood panels faced in black Vynide.
Two cars can be carried on the top deck and one or two on the bottom. The rear ends of the top deck are lowered hydraulically for loading, an electric winch being employed to get vehicles up the ramp.
