LARGE LEYLAND CONTRACTS FROM AUSTRALIA: Considerable contracts from Australia have been received by the Leyland group in the first weeks of 1964. Amounting to more than £1,200,000 combined, they include both commercial and passenger models, the largest number of one model to be supplied being 120 Albion Chieftain 7tonners for both tipping and general haulage duties. Popular Leyland model is the medium-duty Comet, 90 of which are to be supplied, followed by the 14-ton Beaver, with 48 models ordered. Passenger chassis orders received include one for 60 of the new Albion -Viking bus chassis.
ROLBA SNOWBLAST .PLOUGHS FOR NORTHUMBERLAND: The first three of a fleet of eight Michigan 85.4 tractor shovels fitted with Rolba Snowbla.st R.1000 rotary snowploughs have been delivered to Northiemberland County Council. They were up/ailed through Scottish Land Development Ltd.' in conjunction with Jack ending and Co. Ltd., and are fitted with Rolls-Royce C4..SEL, 183 b.h.p. ouxiliary diesel engines to drive the plough heads. MORE A.E.C. BUSES FOR KOWLOON: The Kowloon Motor Bus Co, (1933) Ltd. has ordered a further 40 long-wheelbase A.E,C. Regent V double-decker bus chassis to be fitted with 115-passenger bodies.
MORE " BEVERLEY BAR" BUSES FOR EAST YORKSHIRE: East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd. has ordered another 14 A.E.C. RellOWII buses to be fitted with 74-seat, lowheight bodies by Park Royal Vehicles Ltd. Incorporated into the bodies will be special roof sections to enable the buses to safely negotiate the historic Beverley Bar.
TASKERS TRAILERS FOR B.R.S.: An order worth £120,000 has been placed with Taskers of Andover (1932) Ltd.. by British Road Services. The order calls for the supply of 75 16/20-ton tandem-axle semitrailers. 61 10-tort single-axle semi-trailers and 128 fifth-wheel couplings.
HIPPOS FOR THE JUNGLE: Leyland Motors Ltd. has received an order worth £30,000 for a number of special vehicles to he operated in the Borneo jungle by the Bombay-Burntah Trading Corporation Ltd. Bawd on the Hippo chassis with 200 b.h.p. diesel engines, three will be tractive units employed on logging duties, and the remainder will be fitted with Telehoist tipping gear and 10 cu. yd. dumper bodies. REPEAT A.E.C.s FOR SOUTHAMPTON: Southampton Corporation has placed a repeat order for 15 Regent V double-deck bus chassis. AV590 diesel engines and synchromesh gearboxes will again be fitted. DEVON GENERAL ORDERS MORE BUSES: The Devon General Omnibus and Touring Co. Ltd. ha.s ordered 12 A.E.C. Regent double-decker chassis and six Reliance single-deckers. The Regents -will be fitted with 67-seat front-entrance bodies and the Reliances will be 30-ft. models with 41-seat bodies designed for one-man operation.
SC AMMELL SEMI-TRAILERS POPULAR: Conunercial Vehicle Sales (Hull):Ltd. has ordered two Searnmell 25-ft., 12-ton, fifth-wheel coupling semi-trailers with flat platform bodies on behalf of G. K. Levitt of Newbald ; Wake Bros. (Haulage) Ltd., has ordered five Fourtrak semi-trailers with platform bodies and both two-line air and single-line vacuum brakes: and Westdock Ltd. has ordered three 12-ton automatic coupling semi-trader chassis. SMITH'S VANS FOR MIDDLE EAST: Two Litex high-efficiency bodies have recently been. supplies! to Jordan -throUgh. the Austin • Motor Export Corporation Ltd. Mounted on Austin WE K60 normal-control chassis, the bodies ran carry 2.5-ton -payloads and have Thermo King PA 20D refrigeration units. An Austin 12 M16. forms the basis of a Litex Super Frigeilette refrigerated van supplied to .4. Besse and Co. Ltd.. of Aden. The container is mounted on a Walker platform body, and cooling is by Winget Dole holdover plates. Polydrape curtains are used at the container doors.
SCAM MELL HEAVIES FOR ECUADOR: The Anglo Ecuadorian Oilfields Company has . ordered two 15-ft. 9-in.-wheelbase Scammeli 6 x 6 Constructor tractive, units, fitted with fifth-wheel heavy-duty couplings. They are to be fitted with 185 b,h,p. diesel engines and will operate with oil well servicing semi-trailers of mast and .pump types, and fitted with 60,0004b. winches. The company has also ordered another Seammell 6 x 4 Constructor oilfields chassis.
Lim. ORDER FOR • FORD POWER UNITS: J. C. Bamford (Excavators) Ltd.; of 'Roce.ster, Staffordshire, has placed the largest single order ever received by Tractor Group, Ford of Britain, for tractor purer units. The contract involves the supply of 3,100 units—diesel engine, gearbox and rear transmission—to be used in the 1964 JCB production programme.
LEEDS BUYS MORE REAR-ENTRANCE DOUBLE-DECKERS: Leeds City Transport department has ordered 15 A.E.C. Regent V double-deckers for normal fleet replacements. They will be fitted with 70-seat rear-entrance bodies built by Chas. H. Roe Ltd.. of Leeds. who will also build the 41-seat dual-purpose bodies on four new Reliance single-decker chassis. A fifth Reliance chassis has also been ordered.
MORE SCAMMELL SEMI-TRAILERS: Commercial Motors (Clay Cross) Lid. has ordered four Scammell Fourtrak fifth-wheel semi-trailers with fiat platform bodies 26 ft. by 7 ft. bin., whilst Scammell dealers, Delves Motors Ltd., of Norwich, has ordered 10 8-ton 25 ft. by 7 ft. 6 in, flat platform semitrailers with Mil. type automatic coupling. on behalf of one of its customers.
350 A.E.C. ENGINES FOR FRANCE: Etablissemerns Willemc of Nanterre, near Paris, one of France's leading heavy-vehicle manufacturers, has placed a £200,000 order for 350 A.E.C. AV690 automotive diesel engines. They will be installed in the Willeme range of heavy commercial vehicles and dumpers, REPEAT ORDERS FOR HIGHWAYMAN: Thomas Allen Lid, has ordered a further 14 Scammell Highwayman tractive units with 150 b.h.p. diesel engines and Scammell radial air compressors to provide both pressure and vacuum for load and discharge. Meanwhile; Wrekin Roadways Ltd. has ordered another two Highwayman tractive units with similar, power units and fitted with Scammeil heavY-ditty turntable "couplings.
