LATEST addition to the range of passenger vehicle bodies built by W. L. Thurgood (Coachbuilders) Ltd., of Ware, Herts, is a 24-seat personnel carrier based on an Austin 3-ton, petrol-engined chassis. This vehicle, as foreshadowed in The Commercial Motor, August 16, 1963, has been supplied to the Harefield and Northwood Group Hospital Management Committee by J. R. Inwards Ltd., of Ruislip, Middlesex.

Based on the standard Thurgood con

struction employing ash pillars reinforced with light-alloy flitch plates, the body has an overall length of 21 ft. and overall width of 7 ft. 5 in., whilst the interior gangway has a clear headroom of 5 ft. 11 in. The seats are upholstered with Dunlopillo cushions and squabs, trimmed with light green vynide. Vynide lining in matching colours is also employed for the rear face of the seat squabs and the side and ceiling lining panels, whilst the pillar and cant rail finishings are of polished wood with vynide pillar inserts.

A coach-type door is fitted on the near side with an emergency door on the off side, and a spare wheel is carried beneath the floor at the rear Two sliding windows are fitted each side, with additional sliders in the front quarter lights. Interior lighting is provided by four canoe-shaped fittings on the cant rail, and a light is also provided in the entrance step well. Externally, the vehicle is finished in an olive green livery.
