of Polycell Products Ltd., at the company's Welwyn Garden City factory and headquarters. In 1947, Mr. Mercier joined Robert Deard, haulage contractors, Finchley, and was with them until 'ne moved to Polycell. As Deard's assistant transport manager, he was responsible for a fleet of 50 vehicles operating all over Britain.
Mr. E. G. Wright, managing director since 1952 of the Leicester haulage, warehousing and export packing firm of H. Timson and Sons Ltd., has been presented by the directors with a eine camera and projector to mark 50 years' service. He also received a record cabinet from the employees. In 1938, Mr. Wright was elected chairman of the Midland Group of the National Association of Furniture Warehousemen and Removers and in 1947 he became president of the National Association. Ten years later he became president of the Overseas' AssociatiOn.
Mr. J. C. Price, managing director, Tyresoles Ltd., has retired. He joined the company in 1935 and was appointed managing director 17 years ago. Mr. A. D. Davidson, who joined the company in 1936 and became deputy managing director last September, now becomes managing director of Tyresoles Ltd. and its associated company, Tyre Economy Ltd. Other Tyresole Ltd. appointments are: Mr. R. Edwards, director and general works manager; Mr. J. H. Gent, director and sales manager (also of Tyre Economy Ltd.); Mr. W. C. Miner, supplies manager; Mr. C. S. Miles-Thomas, national sales manager, and Mr. R. Bartram," off-the-road tyre sales. Mr. K. Dean has been appointed director and deputy sales manager of Tyre Economy Ltd., whilst the following have been appointed regional sales managers: Mr. D. Wandby (Northern): Mr. C. S. Maxwell (South West); Mr. J. R. B. Mackie (Scottish); Mr, A. J. Loft (Midland), and Mr. I. D. C. Ballard (London).

'Mr. S. F. Gregory, regional transport manager of the Midland division of British Bakeries Ltd., has been appointed the group's regional transport manager for Scotland and will take up his duties in Glasgow on January 20, his successor being Mr. S. T. Sharratt. Mr. Gregory will relinqu:sh the chairmanship of The Institute of Road Transport Engineers, Midlands centre.
Mr. W. C. Webster, divisional staff officer, South Eastern division, has been appointed staff officer. British Road Services Ltd. Mr. Webster joined B.R.S. as divisional staff officer, Eastern division, in 1949, and moved to the corresponding post in the Western division in 1955: He has been divisional staff officer, South Eastern division, since January, 1956.
Mr. Harry Sp:ttlehouse, formerly joint managing director of Toledo Woodbead Springs Ltd., has been appointed chairman and managing director in succession to the late Mr. Frank Woodhead, chairman and joint managing director, who died on December 28 last. Mr. Geoffrey Cozens has been appointed deputy chairman and Mr. James A. Currer Br:ggs, formerly a local director, has been elected to the board.
Mr. P. H. Smith has been appointed Midland representative of Transport Brakes Ltd., of Bristol. Mr. Smith, who has been engaged in tyre distribution and sales, will direct his activities amongst p.s.v. and goods transport operators.
Mr. R. H. Wilson has been appointed joint managing director of CIBA (A.R.L.) Ltd., Duxford, Cambridge, in succession to Mr. R. F. G. Lea, who has resigned this position but remains as deputy chairman. In future the company will be managed jointly by Mr. D. A. Hubbard and Mr. R. H. Wilson.
Mr. C. R. Lawless has been appointed director of Premix Concrete Ltd., of Wootton, Berks, subsidiary of the Amey Group. Formerly technical manager and general manager, Mr. Lawless has been with the company five years.
Mr. J. B. Rowsen, previously South East Home Counties area manager of E. Boydell and Co. Ltd., of Gloucester, has been appointed Southern Counties manager (excluding London and the West Country) and Mr. E. J. Cooper has joined the company as South East Home Counties representative. Completing the area sales force is Mr. C. F. Hewlett. who has been Muir-Hill machines representative in the North East Home Counties since 1960. Mr. F. Taylor has relinquished his post as London depot service engineer to become assistant to Mr. D. G. Pettitt, the London area manager.
Mr. W. E. G. Hewings, secretary to the London Transport Board, has been appointed a chief officer. He retains his pre,sent title and responsibilities. Mr. A. P. de Boer will be joining the board of Shell-Mex and B.P. Ltd. next May in succession to Mr. A. C. Dude, whose resignation has already been announced. Mr. de Boer is at present chairman and managing director of Shell Trinidad Ltd.
Mr. David Currie, a member of Glasgow Regional Hospital Board, has been appointed to the Highland Transport Board by the Secretary of State for Scotland.
Mr. Ernest Cars has been appointed chairman and joint managing director of the Moss Gear Co. in succession to Mr. S. L. Duckitt, who has retired from the board because of ill health after 44 years' service. Mr. John T. Riley has been appointed joint managing director and Mr. K. Parrock, works director.
Mr. H. Lymath has been appointed acting staff director, marketing, of the Perkins Group. He joined Perkins in 1960.
Mr. William Armstrong, chairman and managing director of Armstrong Pate* Co. Ltd., left England yesterday on a flying visit to South Africa and India. His current trip takes in Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth, where the Armstrong factory, in addition to producing hydraulic control gear, supplies shock absorbers for the South African motor industry.
Dr. T. A. J. Lamb, manager of Marston Excelsior factories in Leeds, has been appointed to the board of Marston Excelsior Ltd, Sir Victor A. L. Mallet, chairman of The Skefko Ball Bearing Co. Ltd. since July, 1956; retired on January I, having reached the age of 70. He is succeeded by Mr. H. N. Sporborg, who has been a director of the company since November, 1946. Mr. Sven Frisell, who has been a director since May, 1929, and vice-chairman since October, 1952, has also reached 70 and has retired. The new vice-chairman is Mr. Inge Stenberg, managing director of SKF Gothenburg, who has been a member of the Skefko board since March, 1961.
The London Centre committee of the Motor Trades Benevolent Fund has, with reluctance and regret, accepted the resignation of Mr. Selwyn Smith, who has given 35 years' service to the fund.

Mr. Gates, of Hamilton, Lanarkshire, a partner in the haulage contracting business established by his father more than 35 years ago, died in hospital at the age of 57.
