steve.hobson@rbi.co.uk TWO-THIRDS OF leet operators have given no consideration to how the introduction of Euro-6 emissions standards in 2013 will affect their purchasing strategy, according to a study of the UK truck market by CM in association with Chevron, a leader in inished lubricants and manufacturer of Texaco premium base oils.

A surge in sales of lighter, cheaper and less complex Euro-5 trucks is expected in 2012 in the run-up to the switch to Euro-6, which forces drastic cuts in particulate and NOx emissions.

“We were surprised at the low level of awareness of Euro-6,” says Dave Spence, marketing manager, commercial sector at Chevron Lu

bricants. “It will have a signiicant impact on the lubricants business and we are working closely with the engine manufacturers on the new technology required to meet these new standards.” Other key indings of the research were that extended contract hire deals look set to become even more popular as a means of sourcing vehicles, although bigger leets plan to maintain the rate of new vehicle purchases this year.

“When we commissioned CM, Motor Transport and Roadtransport.com to undertake some research for us into buying habits in the UK CV marketplace, we little realised the wealth of unique and valuable information which it would produce,” says James Welchman, marketing manager for Europe at Chevron Lubricants.

“The reaction from throughout the industry has underlined the importance of these indings and it’s clear that this Chevron Lubricants research will play an important role in the marketing plans for vehicle makers and goods and service suppliers alike.

“So I am delighted to announce that Chevron, CM, MT and Roadtransport.com have teamed up to repeat the research in 2011 and we anticipate this research programme will now be an annual event.” ● For a full round-up of the research results, see CMWs 24 February issue.
