GROCONTINENTAL has invested £2.2m in a new warehouse to keep up with rigorous demands from food retailers.
Construction of the new 40,000ft2 warehouse at the irm’s headquarters in Whitchurch, Shropshire, is due for completion in May.
Grocontinental says the site is designed to accommodate 8,000 pallets of dry goods, and will be used by existing, as well as new, customers.
The irm employs 300 staff and has seen turnover go from £21.9m in 2008 to £25m in 2010.
David Grocott, joint MD, says Grocontinental is reaping the beneits of its £6m investment in new trucks in 2009, as well as an improved warehouse IT management system.
“By investing carefully, but boldly, in new construction and our leet and software innovation, we have been able to remain very competitive in our industry.
“We have seen an increasing trend towards customers keeping their stock inventories down, which has meant that we have had to respond accordingly by ensuring fast next-day turnaround of stock and 100% lexibility.”
