FUEL ECONOMY IS the key concern for Somerset-based haulier RT Keedwell, which has purchased two new MAN TGX 6x2 tractors.
MD Stuart Keedwell says fuel economy is priority number one, as with its major contracts secure until 2015 the company can turn its attention to making decisions about its truck fleet.
This long-term assessment includes bring ing two new MAN TGX 26.440 6x2 BLS tractor units to the 400-strong fleet. “We had two MANs on 55 plates,” says Keedwell, “and they performed very well on general haulage and Tautliner work, returning 8mpg. That’s good economy on our fleet.
“We were keen to see what the latest MANs could do, and, although it’s a bit soon to give an accurate appraisal, the indications are very good for the TGX product.” Another factor behind the decision is that Keedwell prefers exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to selective catalytic reduction (SCR). “We are actually anti-AdBlue. If we get good economy from an EGR engine, then what’s the point of AdBlue? So, we’re keeping a very close eye on the MANs.” ● CM will run a profile of RT Keedwell later in the year.
